Funny Guy Mugs Windbreaker Eat the Rich

Happy "Day of the Dragon," my fellow Game of Thrones nerds! This totally real, not made up holiday is being commemorated by WB Shop's first major House of the Dragon merch drop. That's right. You can now own a variety of t-shirts, bomber jackets, raglan tees, laptop cases, posters, tote bags, mouse pads, iPhone cases, mugs and more(!) that all celebrate a show that won't premiere on HBO and HBO Max until Sunday, August 21.

Jokes aside, Warner Brothers's big "Day of the Dragon" merchandise drop does give eagle-eyed ASOIAF fans our first look at what some of House of the Dragon's much-hyped dragons will look like (as well as confirmation that Paddy Considine's Viserys I will not be wearing Aegon the Conqueror's crown and it will be a whole thing).

The first wave of officially licensed House of the Dragon merchandise falls into a couple of different categories. There are designs that commemorate the holiday itself, as well as capsule collections riffing on such themes as a Dragon Eye, Viserys's aforementioned crown, and the quote, "Dreams Didn't Make Us Kings, Dragons Did."

That's all well and good, but what secrets about House of the Dragon do these shirts, jackets, and laptop designs reveal?

First of all, Syrax, Princess Rhaenyra's (Milly Alcott as a teen, Emma D'Arcy as an adult) mount will indeed be bright golden yellow! Yup, I'm pretty darn sure that's Syrax, y'all!

Syrax makes an appearance on the front of this bomber jacket, while it's unclear who the black and red dragon on the back is. It looks an awful lot like Daenerys's (Emilia Clarke) own Drogon from Game of Thrones, but it could be a vision of what Vhagar or Caraxes, aka "the Blood Wyrm" might look like on the show. That said, Caraxes is definitely supposed to be red, as is Rhaenys's (Eve Best) dragon Meleys. And there is at least one very big, very red dragon on the inside of the jacket:

You can once again see what looks to be Syrax on this design, along with a silvery blue dragon who could be Silverwing or even Dreamfyre. (Though if that's Dreamfyre, is this golden dragon actually Sunfyre? Also why do I know this much about dragons? I'm worried about myself!)

Of course, we also get a peek at other kinds of dragons in the merch drop. There is one design highlighting the skull of Balerion the Black Dread (as seen in the original House of the Dragon teaser trailer) as well as a new sort of sigil design highlighting a large, snake-like dark dragon. (Is this Vhagar?)

We once again have a main design highlighting that mysterious black and red dragon (who looks more and more like Drogon to me!) as well as a look at the "Dragon's Eye" design where you can see the Iron Throne reflected in the beast's magnificent gaze.

Last, but certainly not least, is this laptop case with Viserys's crown surrounded by sigils of the seven major houses of Westeros: House Stark's Direwolf, the Lion of Lannister, the Stag of House Baratheon, the gilded rose of the Tyrells, the silver trout of House Tully, the pierced sun of Dorne's ruling family, the Martells, and finally House Arryn's falcon and moon.

Two things to note about this, though. One, this crown looks exactly like the gilded one we've seen King Viserys I wear in the trailers. It's noteworthy that he does not sport the Valyrian steel and ruby crown of Aegon the Conqueror. Typically warrior Targaryen kings like to wear that crown, while the more, uh, retiring royals stick with something less badass.

The other weird thing? House Martell was not technically part of the Seven Kingdoms at this time in Westeros history. They were still, as their words suggest, "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken." It would not be until teenaged King Daeron I swept into Dorne a few generations later that they would be brought under brief Targaryen rule. Later a marriage between King Daeron II and Myriah Martell would finally unite Dorne with the rest of Westeros. (It's always those Daerons in Dorne!)

I don't know if this is simply a mistake from the design firm who wanted to go with the seven sigils of the major families of Westeros or if Dorne has been retconned into the Seven Kingdoms in House of the Dragon. (I'm leaning the former and honestly think they should have just slipped House Velayron's Seahorse sigil in Dorne's place if they wanted seven logos.)

Anyway, if Game of Thrones fans have gleaned anything from the "Day of the Dragon" merch drop, it's that House of the Dragon will have far more colorful dragons than Daenerys did. And for that, we should all be thankful. (Especially me, because I found it very hard to tell Dany's dragons apart on the show and I have to keep all of these dragons straight when they appear on the show!)

Fly, Syrax, fly!
